It’s more of a decent excuse to reel everyone back together to fight for something, whether it be the story modes for the first P4A or the follow-up in P4AU - both of which are featured on this release from the jump. I’m not gonna front and say the actual story elements are particularly revelatory or groundbreaking. I still find it wild how natural ArcSys remixed Persona to create a memorable fighting game that’s not only faithful to the source material, but presents it in a new light. Persona 4 Arena and P4AU translated both the personalities of our favorite (or most hated) characters and the series’ RPG elements in ways that rekindle my enthusiasm for them. Here, Persona’s authentic spirit carries this game well beyond being a solid fighter. With those pillars intact, anime fighters can stand the test of time, sticking around much longer in the FGC’s consciousness and sustaining a cult following. But like many Arc System Works games, the core mechanics are designed with considerable balance, depth, approachability, and spectacle (though the former will always be debatable). More importantly, it revives a fantastic spinoff for beloved RPGs and remains a top-tier fighting game.ĢD anime fighters have evolved quite a bit over the eight-or-so years since Persona was spun into one.

"Ultimax" also lets you challenge your friends using its local multiplayer options. Every "Persona" character from the single player modes is available online, including Shadow forms. You can also set up matches so that the player who wins can continue to keep challenging opponents. The lobby area recreates the arcade experience by letting players watch and communicate with those currently playing. When you're bored of fighting against the computer, you can challenge human opponents from all over the globe. In Golden Arena, you'll navigate a dungeon and defeat monsters, similar to other "Persona" games. This title also features an RPG mode called Golden Arena. The biggest change is the S-Hold feature, which allows you to charge up your attacks, dealing more damage to a character if the assault connects. While the game play is similar to the previous version of the game, this sequel to "Arena" adds some features. When this meter is empty, you win the round. A life meter at the top of the screen shows you how much life your opponent has left. As a one on one fighting game, the objective in "Persona 4 Arena Ultimax" is to defeat your opponent. You can unlock each Shadow character by completing specific in game requirements. This unlimited SP ability lets you unleash special move after special move and overwhelm your opponent. However, the Shadow character’s access to new abilities, such as giving themselves unlimited SP, is for only a short time. This Shadow form gives your character new moves in exchange for removing your defensive options.
Nearly every character in "Ultimax" also has a Shadow form. Characters such as Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori represent "Persona 3." Fan favorite characters such as Yu Narukami and Chie Satonaka represent "Persona 4." Each of these "Persona" characters has a unique array of special attacks. There is also one character, Sho Minazuki, who makes his debut in this game. "Persona 4 Arena Ultimax" includes five unique characters that are exclusive to the home console version. All of the characters from the arcade version of the game are present. "Persona 4 Arena Ultimax" features over 20 characters for the player to select. This Atlus game was released in 2014 for the PlayStation 3. "Persona 4 Arena Ultimax" is developed by Arc System Works and published by Atlus. Once both stories are complete, players can unlock the true ending. The story mode is split into two parts, one for each group of characters from their respective games. When General Teddie announces a new fighting tournament, characters from both "Persona 3" and "Persona 4" enter.
However, you don't need to have played the previous game to follow this story. It is a direct sequel to the "Persona 4 Arena" PlayStation 3 fighting game released in 2012.
